New York has the seventh most expensive household bills in the country, according to a report released by doxo.

The online bill payment service released a 2024 U.S. Household Bill Pay Report earlier this year, which looks at the total amount people are spending on bills per month across 10 categories: utilities, auto loans, cable and internet bills, mortgage, rent, health insurance, auto insurance, cell phone bills, alarm and security and life insurance.

New York’s household bills are 24% higher than the national average, according to doxo, and ranks #7 in the nation for most expensive household bills. Here’s a breakdown of the data:

  • The average New York household pays $2,627 per month or $31,528 per year on bills.
  • New York’s household bills are $6,016 higher per year than the U.S. average.
  • Household bills account for 35% of a New Yorker’s annual household income of $88,943.

A closer look at Westchester County’s household bills

Westchester County’s household bills are 53% higher than the national average, according to doxo, and ranks #4 in the state for most expensive household bills per county. Here’s a breakdown of the data:

  • The average Westchester County household pays $3,244 per monthor $38,928 per year on bills.
  • Westchester County’s household bills are $13,415 higher per yearthan the U.S. average.
