Bills.
Whether they come in the form of utility, car, house, insurance or phone bills, they are a fact of life. However, put in a national context, bills in Glasgow are not as bad as in other places.
Online bill pay service doxo released its 2024 list of United States cities comparing their “Cost of Bills Index” and, according to that list, Glasgow residents pay $1,569 per month, or $18,833 yearly, on household bills, which is 26 percent lower than the national index and $6,680 per year lower.
Viewed individual categories, doxo states residents pay monthly $989 on mortgages, $795 on rent, $432 on auto bills, $249 on utility bills, $204 on car insurance, $98 on health insurance, $104 on cell phone costs — which has the highest percentage paying this bill at 96 percent of Glasgow’s 15,313 population — $118 on cable and internet bills, $55 on life insurance and $82 on security bills — which Doxo reported was only applicable to 12 percent of residents.
Using the same doxo report, Glasgow goes from 26 percent below the national average to 8 percent above it once the costs are adjusted for income, which is roughly $44,000 according to the U.S. census.
Barren County is also 26 percent lower than the national average, or 12 percent above if adjusted for income.
Oldham County was ranked the most expensive county with an average of $2,518.
